Emergency Responder Training

Safeguarding the communities in which we operate — an area that spans 23 states, the District of Columbia and two Canadian provinces — is a top priority for CSX. Developing necessary skills and knowledge of first responders is one way we maintain good local relationships and improve safety.

We provide training to community emergency responders in many ways, including printed materials, classroom training, online training courses and in-person training in our railyards and at the CSX Railroad Education & Development Institute (REDI) in Atlanta, GA.  In addition, CSX hosts emergency response drills involving local responders throughout the network each year. More than 4,000 emergency responders received training in 2012.

In recognition of its various safety information and education efforts, CSX was honored in 2012 with the Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER) National Award.
